Have you ever experienced any Sadness, Frustration, Anger, Disappoinment, or maybe Embarassment? If you are human, my guess would be YES! If you think that "It was just a little issue" or that "It happened so long ago that it should not bother me anymore"; the fact that you remember it AT ALL is a huge sign that it needs closure. How often do we remember details about even our fondest memories?
Emotions and learning how to manage them is a large part of our human experience. The heaviness of our emotional baggage can manifest itself by actually Weighing us down with extra pounds. But what if you aren't overweight? It can show up as Depression. It can show up in our Posture and Body Language. It can show up in the ways we Lash out or even Retreat in sticky situations. Maybe even having Lack of Motivation to DO the things that would bring you more joy in your life.
So what can we do about it? There are many different ways, but the way that ANYONE can do it is to pose questions to yourself in journal form.
Example: "I feel sad because...", "I want to cry because...", "I want to crawl in a hole and stay there because...", "I felt so embarassed because...", "I feel so stinkin disappointed because...", and the list is endless because there is no one right way to word it necessarily.
As you pose the question, you are looking for a trigger word or theme to show up.
Example: "I feel so Frustrated because...my children don't listen to me! I feel that I deserve respect! I try hard to respect them and I am the parent for goodness sakes! I respected My parents and now I am the grown up! What is up with that?"
RESPECT showed up 3 times so then I should ask myself something about Respect, such as...
"When I feel disrespected...I don't want to do things for those who treat me badly. I feel angry and then I yell to try to get what I want, but then I end up feeling like a horrible parent."
Then that could lead to..."I feel like a horrible parent because I don't feel in control of myself and like I am being a bad example to my children."
Then maybe "I am a bad example because...I am not behaving like the parent that I know I should be. I am supposed to be the example of how to handle tricky situations and I am the one using the behavior I would probably discipline my own children for."
This helps me to see the SOURCE of my frustration being: I actually feel bad that I don't have the kind of control over my own emotions/actions as I wished that I had and I was projecting that onto my kids. This example really worked out to show a couple of points: I found the, or at least one of the, main sources of my frustration and ultimately it points back to something in my own life that I needed to become AWARE of. When we are aware of faulty behaviors and the skewed reasonings around it, we are then empowered with the ability to change it into something else. Something better and more positive.
NEXT: Read Outloud Passionately...
your newly written "script" somewhere no one can hear you, since you will be expressing it with EMOTION and FEELING. Expressing it with the emotion is the KEY to really getting it out of you. If more comes out, keep going with it! Get all that gunk out of you!
OPTIONS: Doing it Outside is awesome because nature is a great "recycler" and cleanses things, but if that seems too open then you could do it more privately in your car: If done while in the Garage, open up the garage afterwards and imagine all the negative emotions leaving and being swept away from your space out into nature. If done while sitting in the car, open the windows and garage to let it all go when you are done. If you would like something even closer to home, you could "dump" it all out into the toilet water and flush it all away.
NEXT: Destroy!
Those old negative thoughts/emotions after you read/express them. You could watch yourself crush them, rip them, stomp on them, shred them, flush them down the toilet in little pieces, or even burn them. SHOW yourself that you have the Power and are in control. You decide what you keep and that you Destroy what does not belong!
FINALLY: Forgive yourself...
With your hands on your heart, say "I forgive you for feeling and believing those things. I am normal and human." "I am still a good person even though those terrible feelings were trapped inside of me." "Even though those things made no sense at all, I forgive myself for letting them disrupt my life. No more though. I am thankful to forgive myself and release all of that unhealthy trash."
Repeat Daily...
as if these were literally mice infesting your home. How badly would you want those guys gone? How diligently would you try? Would you want them hanging around and spawning more of them? That is what happens when we leave this junk in to fester. It grows into much bigger problems! Are the droppings bothering you or is it just not bad enough yet and you'll just wait for it to get worse. We clean the outside of us daily. The inside loves the same kind of cleansing and needs it too.
NOTES: Our bodies are programmed to get rid of waste and toxins through using bathroom, sweating, coughing up junk, and even crying. This is just another way of getting the stuff out that does not belong and has just been trapped inside. Our bodies are also very good at "showing" us what is OFF Inside, by manifesting it on the Outside of us. It all just wants to be corrected, whole, and balanced so you can be the very best YOU possible! :)
The next post illustrates another technique that will help you put in some "Perfect Positives" to replace the negatives that you just got out of you.
